Why tariffs are great for the planet

Believe it or not, at FIFI we like tariffs. We also like gay marriages and legalised abortion, public health and education, We are anti-war, anti-invasion and anti-authoritarian regimes... But we like tariffs.

Free trade drives faster economic growth than any form of protectionism but what good is economic growth, if it all ends up in the same pockets?

A global sustainable economy needs to be more localised. It does not make sense that everything that the world buys comes from Asia. Global trade generates between 20% and 30% of ALL CARBON EMISSIONS and it keeps getting worse.

The Asia and Pacific Region consumes 80%+ of global coal to power the industries that produce the products that the rest of the world consumes. Add the fuel required to transport all these goods across the planet and I bet tariffs don’t sound so bad anymore.

Of course we would prefer tariffs per kilo per mile travelled rather than tariffs per €, $ or £ but anything that stops this madness is a good first step.

At FIFI tariffs don’t affect us. We produce all our clothes in the same region as we sell them and we always ship them from the same country. So if you are buying one of our pieces in the UK it will be made in Portugal, shipped in bulk to our UK warehouse and shipped from there to your home.

At FIFI, we are dedicated to protecting and preserving our planet and this is reflected in every step of our customer journey.
