Why This Journal Exists
There is no shortage of fashion magazines.
There are publications telling us what to wear this season, what colours are "in", what trends are returning and what pieces we should replace.
This isn't one of them.
This journal exists because we believe there is another way.
For decades, the fashion industry has been built on a simple idea: if people buy more, more often, everyone wins. New collections replace old ones. Trends replace trends. Clothes that were desirable six months ago are quietly pushed aside to make room for the next thing.
The result is a cycle of constant consumption that has become so familiar we rarely question it.
We think it's time to ask different questions.
What if the best item of clothing you own is the one you've had for ten years?
What if buying less is a better measure of success than buying more?
What if quality, durability and thoughtful design are more valuable than novelty?
At FIFI, we don't believe clothes define who you are.
Your ideas define you.
Your actions define you.
The way you treat other people defines you.
Clothes are simply tools. They should keep you warm, make you comfortable and last for years. Beyond that, they shouldn't demand your attention or become a measure of your worth.
That belief shapes every decision we make.
We don't produce seasonal collections because we don't believe clothes should have an expiry date.
We don't follow trends because trends are designed to create dissatisfaction with things that are still perfectly good.
We manufacture close to where we sell because unnecessary transport makes little sense when local alternatives exist.
We aim to make durable clothing that you'll wear for years, not months.
Our ambition is unusual for a clothing company.
We want to reach as many people as possible, as few times as possible.
If you buy one FIFI sweatshirt and still enjoy wearing it ten years from now, we've succeeded.
If you don't feel the need to replace it because fashion has moved on, we've succeeded.
If you buy fewer clothes overall because you've chosen better ones, we've succeeded.
That may not be the traditional definition of business success, but it's ours.
The Anti-Fashion Journal is where we'll explore the ideas behind that philosophy.
We'll write about consumerism, manufacturing, quality, sustainability, psychology and the stories behind the clothes we make. Sometimes we'll challenge accepted ideas. Sometimes we'll question our own assumptions. We won't always expect everyone to agree with us, and that's perfectly fine.
Our goal isn't to tell you what to wear.
Our goal is to encourage you to think differently about why you wear it.
If you've ever looked at the fashion industry and felt that something wasn't quite right, you're not alone.
Welcome to The Anti-Fashion Journal.
